Forklift Safety Standards 2026: Essential Guide for Global Importers
If you’re sourcing electric forklifts from China this year, the compliance picture has shifted. Not dramatically, but enough that skipping the paperwork review before shipment is a real risk.
CE marking is not optional for EU imports. Every electric forklift entering the EU market needs a valid CE Declaration of Conformity covering the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and the Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU). Some buyers assume this is boilerplate—it’s not. The technical file needs to match the actual machine shipped.
Our CPD series forklifts are built to 2026 registration requirements, with full documentation available on request. That includes CE certificates, test reports, and wiring diagrams.
Battery safety is under increasing scrutiny. The EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542) introduces labeling, recycling, and carbon footprint disclosure requirements. For lithium battery-equipped machines, buyers need to verify battery chemistry documentation. CALT lithium batteries in our CPD-20 and CPD-30 come with full cell-level documentation.

Explosion-proof valve and safety interlocks. These aren’t optional extras—they’re standard on compliant machines. The CPD line ships with explosion-proof hydraulic valve, handbrake/seat power-off interlock, password lock, and smart charger with overcharge protection. If a supplier’s quote doesn’t mention these, ask specifically. You want them in writing before your container ships.
Operator certification varies by country. In the UK, PUWER and LOLER apply. In Australia, relevant state WHS codes govern. In the US, OSHA 1910.178 sets the framework. The machine being safe is one piece—the operator being trained and certified is the other. That responsibility sits with the buyer.
Our team has helped buyers across 80+ countries handle documentation and customs requirements. If you’re navigating a new market, start the compliance conversation early.
