Attachment Strategy—How One Mini Excavator Replaces a Fleet of Machines
A mini excavator is one machine. With the right attachments, it becomes six.
The auxiliary hydraulic circuit is what unlocks this. Most mini excavators in the 1-2 ton class come with auxiliary lines ready for tooling. What you plug into them changes what the machine does all day.
Hydraulic breaker. Concrete removal, rock breaking, frost line penetration. The breaker does what the bucket can’t. Running a breaker needs proper return-line plumbing—direct to tank, not through the control valve. The SN-TC15 comes with a shut-off valve at the auxiliary connection, making breaker swaps fast and clean.
Hydraulic thumb. A thumb opposite the bucket turns the excavator into a grapple. Pick up rocks, logs, demolition debris, or brush piles without straps and chains. For site cleanup, a thumb pays for itself in labor savings within a few jobs.
Tilt bucket or grading bucket. A wide smooth-edge bucket for finish grading takes the place of hand raking. On a foundation dig or drainage slope, the grading bucket leaves a surface ready for stone or pipe.
Auger. Post holes for fencing, sign installation, deck footings. Hydraulic augers run off the same auxiliary circuit. Match auger bit diameter to your typical post sizes.
Ripper tooth. For hard-packed soil, shale, or frozen ground, a single ripper tooth concentrates breakout force into a narrow point. It breaks material that a bucket would skate across.
Quick coupler. If you’re changing attachments daily, a mechanical or hydraulic quick coupler cuts swap time to seconds. Drop the bucket, hook the breaker, flip the latch.

- Utility: bucket, auger, compaction wheel
Flow rate check. Each attachment has a recommended flow range. A breaker rated for 20-30 L/min won’t perform on a machine delivering 15 L/min. Match attachment specs to the machine’s auxiliary flow. The SN-TC17 pushes 50 L/min—enough for demanding attachments.
